We enjoyed our unit on the Sun, Moon and Stars. We learned that the sun lights and heats our Earth. We studied how the sun appears in the sky at different times of day. We observed the changing sky and painted and wrote about it during our Writers Workshop.
Children are fascinated by the sun, moon and stars. This would be a great time to explore the night sky with your child.
We learned that stars are giant balls of fiery gas. Did you know it takes a billion years for a star to be born? We swirled and twirled and became stars. Then we studied Van Gogh's Starry Night painting and learned about the artistic technique called hatching. We tried our hand at hatching and created our own Starry Night Masterpieces.

STAR by far!
We love to water color the sky. So far, we have painted twilight, sunset, sunrise, night sky and day. I will try to add these soon. They are beautiful. At the end of the unit, everyone will have their own book, Painting the Sky.
