Water Cycle

We learned about the water cycle. Rain falls on the land.  The heat from the sun warms the water and it evaporates and turns into water vapor.  The water vapor condences in the clouds and turns back into rain.  When the clouds get too heavy the rain falls.  If the temperature is cold enough the water falls as snow.

We made a water cycle in our classroom. We put water in a small dixie cup.  We put the cup in a sealed zip lock bag and hung it in the window so the sun could heat the water.  Ask your child what is happening.

We also made bracelets to help us remember the water cycle.  We used colored beads to represent different parts of the cycle.

light blue~ the rain falls

green~ on the green grass

dark blue~ puddles form

yellow~ the sun heats the water

clear~ the water evaporates

white~ and condences in the clouds

 Clouds

We learned about the different kinds of clouds.

Cumulus Clouds are puffy and white.  They usually mean fair and sunny weather. They grow bigger throughout the day.

Cumulonimbus Clouds are big and grey.  They are also known as Thunderheads.  They bring thunderstorms.

Stratus Clouds are thinner and layered.  Bring an umbrella if see them. They mean drizzly weather or snow flurries depending on the temperature.

Cirrus Clouds are light and wispy ice clouds up very high. They can bring a change in the weather.

Here are some photos of us learning about clouds.

Stormy Weather

We LOVED reading and learning about stormy weather.  We read about Thunder, lightning, hailstones and tornadoes.
